Maria’s Magical Music Adventure / La mágica aventura musical de María (2022)

An Ars Lyrica Houston children’s book written by Emma Kent Wine

Published by CKW Publishing

I also arranged music from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and wrote original music to accompany the story. This music, which is also available for a solo string instrument, can be used along with the story as a musical story time outreach performance. Listen to the string quartet arrangement with narration in English and Spanish here. Contact me to learn more and order the score.

Composition and Songwriting Classes

I’m working with pARTnerschools and several poets, including Ava Leavell Haymon and Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton, to teach virtual songwriting courses to students across Texas. In the workshop, students learn about poetry and lyrics, music and melody, and then write their own song. The song is performed in a “virtual choir.” Watch Everyday Emotions, The Virus, and The Weird Pandemic on YouTube.

I’ve also taught composition workshops for Houston Grand Opera and AFA Texas.

Audio Commentary

Inner Chamber – Musiqa

I hosted a podcast called Inner Chamber while I worked at Musiqa Houston. Each episode featured a performer and a composer. Following a casual discussion, the performer gave a short concert of new music. Meanwhile, the composer left the room to complete the Speed-Composing Challenge, where they were required to write a piece for the performer in the span of the concert (normally 15-20 minutes). For every podcast, we have a world premiere performance on the show.

Check out the episodes here.

Non-Classical: Ashley

Inspired by We The Kings and the many songs I listened to growing up that told me that a boy would like a girl if she had long, wavy hair and spun around in her highest heels, and that the most romantic thing in the world was when a boy and a girl could be together. This is my effort to scream to the world, "it can also be the most romantic thing in the world when a girl and a girl can be together!" Enjoy.
